World Trail Guide Student Notebook CD-ROM (Primary)
What is the difference between the Student Notebook e-Book and the CD-ROM?
Both versions contain the exact same files. The only difference is the manner in which you receive it and place it on your computer. You will download the e-Book version from the internet or email attachment. The CD-ROM will arrive in the mail, and you will insert the disk into your computer.
What is an e-Book?
An e-Book is a book set up in a digital format for electronic distribution – to download onto your computer from the Internet.
E-Books can be delivered to you in a variety of ways, (1) downloaded from the web site at the time of purchase, (2) downloaded from a web site linked in a confirmation email after your order and payment is secured, (3) sent as an attachment in an email file shortly after payment has been made.
How is each level different?
The Trail Guide to World Geography includes atlas drills (geography drills) of 2 questions a day for 3 different levels. The main difference in the levels for the Student Notebook CD is that only the one level of questions are included. Students in the Primary level are not confused by having questions on their page that is not theirs to answer.
Other differences are related to the age/level of the student. Some examples: writing and charting templates use wider spacing between the lines for Primary level; font type used for Secondary is more mature than that in the Primary and Intermediate. Although you are encouraged to assign whatever you wish from the many choices on the Trail Blazing section of the Trail Guide we've the assignments we selected for the Student Notebook templates are different (age appropriate) through the levels.
If I have the Student Notebook CD do I still need Uncle Josh’s Outline Map Book?
No, not really. Uncle Josh graciously allowed us to use his fabulous map art, so all the maps needed to complete the mapping assignments are included in the Student Notebook. For best results use the best or highest resolution when printing maps.
[Once you get used to mapping these assignments you will be inspired to include maps while studying history, science, and more. Uncle Josh’s Outline Map Book and CD-ROM is an excellent resource to have on hand to take advantage of any teaching moment as they present themselves.]
If I have the Student Notebook do I need the Trail Guide to World Geography book?
Yes, absolutely! The Trail Guide is your teacher’s manual and answer key. The Student Notebook does not include answers to the questions, instructions for using the curriculum, or the literature section.
Are the Geography Trails Questions included?
Yes. This is one of the best features of the CD. Each week you can simply print out and hand your students a sheet with all the questions for their level for that week. Space is provided under the questions for students to record their answers. Mapping assignments, and Illustrated Geography Dictionary words are also included on this same page.
Are there any maps in the Student Notebook CD?
Yes! Outline maps needed to complete ALL the mapping assignments are included in the files on this CD-ROM.
What kind of pages and templates are included in the Student Notebook CD-ROM?
Some pages are directly associated with specific assignment choices in the Trail Guide, providing a place to put what student learned on that topic. Some pages are generic and can be used for any assignment choice. There are several different styles of pages with places to write plus room for a photo, picture, or drawing. Templates help students create their own crosswords, chart of facts, and more.
What is the Trail Guide to World Geography Student Notebook CD-ROM?
The CD-ROM contains printable files designed to simplify the process for creating the geography notebooks described in the Trail Guide books. These files are printable pages or templates that provide a place for students to record country summaries, pictures, data learned, facts and other information from the Trail Blazing assignments in the Trail Guide books. Rather than to start with a completely empty notebook and fill it up through the year, the Student Notebook files provide a sort of framework, making the process of creating a notebook flow smoothly.
What is a Student Notebook?
The Trail Guide to World Geography recommends students create their own personal geography notebook with the assignments from the curriculum. Most folks are familiar with workbooks where students fill in the blanks and circle the right answer, but the notebook approach is much different. It requires students to record what they are learning through writing, research, drawings, diagrams, and more - things they personally put in their own notebook. Keeping a notebook improves memory retention, deveiops thinking skills, and helps establish personal (hopefully - enthusiatic) responsibility for learning.
